Hundreds of children get free art supplies courtesy of Middletown nonprofit
By Press Staff Published 1:00 pm EDT, Wednesday, August 12, 2020
MIDDLETOWN — Last weekend’s Buckets of Love children’s giveaway, spearheaded by city-based Artists for World Peace, distributed 300 beach buckets and supplies to keep kids busy over the summer. A steady stream of families picked up supplies Saturday, arriving by car, motor scooter, bicycle and on foot, according to coordinator Phyllis Sheridan. “Smiles were shining all morning, easy to see with or without masks,” she said. Various packages contained glitter and regular paint, sidewalk chalk, sketchbooks, journals, markers, crayons, pens and pencils, bubbles, colored paper, scissors, glue sticks and other items.
Artists for World Peace is appreciative to its sponsors, Sheridan said: the Community Foundation of Middlesex County, AFWP Council of Elders, Molly Salafia, Katherine Lambert, Target, Alex & Cavs discount store and the Middletown Police Department for helping plan a safe, healthy event.
ARTISTS FOR WORLD PEACE began in 2003 with one simple question: HOW CAN ARTISTS HELP CHANGE THE WORLD? The answer has been their quest for the past 18 years–whether it's in huge ways–– such as building a health center, an orphanage, a battered woman's shelter... Or by opening Free EYE and DENTAL clinics for those in need––To feeding the hungry, educating children around the world, supporting their family that they call their "Children of Peace" or.... just in handing a child a BUCKET OF LOVE (Free art supplies, bubbles and summer fun during this pandemic). Any way that Artists for World Peace can put a smile on someone's face or warm someone's heart– THEY ARE THERE!
